I like the dentist. I really do, but I loathe that suction thing. You know that thing that if it gets too close to your soul it will suck it out of you. Oh, I detest the way my mouth feels after they put that thing in my mouth, all dry and sticky, ugh! I know it serves its purpose and it's probably hard for the dentist to work when you are slobbering everywhere like a teething one-year, but still...the dumb thing! I wish they could do without it!
Today, in between classes, the dentist did...well, I'm not sure what. I watched all these things going in and out of my mouth--I lost track of what was still in there and what wasn't. It's somewhat intimidating to have 4 rod shaped objects coming out of your and mouth and then whatever else they are putting in there! Dr. Betz did some "root canal care" they called it. I'm sure it's valid. They made a cast for the crown that will shortly be coming (approx. 1 month).
I wish I could say I enjoy going to the dentist, but honestly, as I am laying there with the drilling and vibrating and pinching and the dumb sucky thing in my mouth I can't help but think, "Why am I paying him to put me through this? This is just miserable!"
Then I try to picture myself 90 years old, sitting down to have dinner with my children, grandchildren and possibly great-grandchildren and I picture myself being able to eat real food because I have my teeth. I don't have dentures, I'm not gumming away at things, just enjoying a nice meal with my dearest family.
That's pretty much they only reason why I subject myself to the sucky thing--so that when I'm 90 years old I can have dinner with my family.
