Share Your Story: Part I, Section 3

Section 3 - My Family

From which country did your ancestors emigrate? How did they travel? When did they arrive? Where did they settle?
The Tavoian side emigrated from Armenia; The Bunderson side - From Norway & England - The first time each traveled by boat. The Tavoian's arrived in the early 1900's. My Grandma arrived in the United States (from Norway) on Thanksgiving day in 1952. The Tavoian's settled in Murray, UT and Grandma & Grandpa Bunderson settled in Corinne, UT.

Who are your parents? What are their full names? Where and when were they born? Where did they grow up? What did your parents do for a living?
Max Kent Tavoian & Shaila Bunderson Tavoian. Dad grew up in Salt Lake and Mom in Corinne. My Dad is a Mechanical Engineer and Mom is the best Mom ever!

What do you remember most about your father from your childhood? About your mother?
What I remember most about my Father growing up was his distinct way of teaching us the gospel principals. Such things as tithing, kindness and compassion, sharing what we have with others, etc. I remember taking meat and other things to the neighbors who needed it. I remember Dad telling us to always pay our tithing. I remember some of his mission stories he told us around the dinner table when we were younger. Another thing I learned when I was younger was at any event I knew we were going to be the last to leave becuase Dad was going to employ our services to help him help whatever it was he was helping with. Things such as cleaning and stacking chairs, etc.

What I remember most about my Mom was coming home from school and she was there! I loved walking through the door yelling, "Mom!" and she would answer. I could then tell her all the teenage drama and she would lovingly listen. Still to this day, I can call (on the phone) and she answers, lovingly listens to my compliants and concerns and then I wait for her advice. It seemed to me, when everyone else in my life turned on me, she was there as my number one fan. In my younger years, I remember reading to her, I remember making cookies and doing things in the kitchen with her. and I loved to go grocery shopping with her just becuase it gave me a chance to talk to Mom and just Mom without any distraction (and then people telling us we looked like twins in the grocery store!).

Who were your grandparents? What do you remember about each of them? How old were you when your grandparents died?
LaMar A. Tavoian - I don't really remember anything besides I was about a year and half old when he passed away.

Faun C. Tavoian - Spending a week during the summer learning to sew! Diabetes, going out to eat - her magnificant Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners!

Lloyd R. Bunderson - "You are my Sunshine!" - Working out in the shop, the tractor, and yard work - mission stories and navy stories, puzzles, & his testimony.

Lilian C. Bunderson - Norway! Grandma never got mad. Ice Cream! Knitting and Crocheting.

Who is the oldest person in your family you can remember knowing when you were a child? What do you remember about that person?
Aunt Archie - My Dad's Aunt, Grandpa Ts sister from Armenia - she had a very small frame and was about 5'2" or so.

While you were growing up, which languages were spoken in your home?
English - although Grandpa B would teach us a few Norwegian words here and there.

What are the full names of your brothers and sisters? Where was your family living when they were born?
Tyson LaMar Born: Logan, Living in Logan
Heather B: Logan, L: Logan
Shantel B: Brigham City, L: Logan
Krystal B: Tremonton, L: Tremonton
Ashton Lloyd B: Tremonton, L: Tremonton
Nicole B: Tremonton, L: Tremonton
Landon Max B: Tremonton, L: Malad
Carson Arzumen B: Tremonton, L: Malad

Share a memory of your brothers and sisters. To whom did you feel closest? Why?
A memory? There are so many! Closest growing up - probably Tyson because he was the next closest in age.

Where was your first home? What are your earliest memories of your home? What was the yard like? What was your room like? What was your favorite thing in the house or yard?
The first house we had was in Tremonton. It was modest in size. Tyson and I shared a room for a while, then as the kids grew the girls were put together and the boys were put together. My room was small, but we had bunk beds which were fun! My favorite thing outside was the Cherry Trees by the ditch. I loved climbing the cherry trees and playing in the ditch. Tyson and I used to catch frogs! Another thing was the sandbox! I loved playing in the sandbox. Another thing was the neighbors Tree house. That was fun! and the field behind our house was great for flying kites! Oh and the bike rides down the road to Peterson park is also a fond memory!

Where has your family lived since that time?
Since Tremonton we moved to Malad where we have been since. I was 11 years old when we moved.

What did your family do for fun when you were a child? What did you talk about at dinner? How did you family spend time together?
Holidays! Spend time together. Dinner was mostly...either Dad's stories, which I liked, or simply "you cannot leave this table till you eat all the food on your plate!" --ask me about the egg story--I still do not like eggs over easy and probably never will!

Was there a chore you hated doing as a child?
Is there a chore any kid likes doing? No. I especially disliked cleaning the bathroom or doing the laundry - but didn't mind the kitchen or dishes as much.

What appliances did you have (or not have) in your home?
While in Tremonton we didn't have a dishwasher. But other than that we've I remember having the basics. My Mom says when she was first married we didn't have a washer or dryer.

Did you have any favorite uncles, aunts or cousins growing up? Who were they and what did you admire most about them?
No, when I was younger I was actually a little afraid of all of them. I'm not now, but I was then, so I would hide at family parties, until someone noticed I was missing.

Where did your family go on vacation? What are your favorite memories of the trips you took together?
The most memorable vacation for me was our trips to the beach (Oceanside) California. Try to image 9 kids and 2 adults crammed in what felt like the smallest car for 10+ hours driving all the way to California! Ugh! But the beach was worth it! I really enjoyed the beach!
