Lucky
We often hear people say to one another, “Wow! You’re lucky!” or “Today is your lucky day!” This is often said but what is luck? Webster defines it as a force that brings good fortune or favoring chance. What is that force that Webster refers to? I believe that force is God’s mercy towards his children. The problem with the words luck, chance or coincidence is that they remove God from our lives. What is chance? It is the word use when they cannot explain something. What others call a favorable circumstance due to chance I call a blessing from God. I believe God blesses us for our righteous decisions. In modern revelation Joseph Smith declared, “There is a law irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—And when we obtain any blessing God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.” (D&C 130:20-21).
We should think more about the reasons for the good things in our lives. This in turn will increase our appreciation for God.
The words luck, chance and coincidence remove God from our lives by no longer acknowledging a Supreme Creator for the fantastical events or simple miracles in our lives but giving credit to just a random series of events. We will find that God is more a part of our lives then we realize.
